Canal locks, Quaker farms and a planned town
Macedon came off Palmyra in 1823 and grew around the Erie Canal, with Lock 30 still working at the edge of the old business district. Quaker farm families settled much of the town. Then in the 1970s, Gananda was laid out as a planned community, part of it in Macedon.
The result is a town where a canal-era house and a subdivision split-level can be a few miles apart. Wayne County’s community profile counts 615 Macedon homes built in 1939 or earlier and 957 built since 2000. We plan each remodel around what the house actually is, not a one-size package.

The Village of Macedon dissolved in 2017, so all permits, including in the old village, go through the Town of Macedon building department at Town Hall, 32 Main Street. We file them.

What to expect
Permits in Macedon
The Town of Macedon code requires a building permit for alterations and improvements covered by the state building code. Taking out walls, moving plumbing and new circuits all count. The town building department has the inspector and code officers, and we deal with them for you.
Gananda homes
Houses on the Macedon side of Gananda are generally solid and well-built, which makes them good candidates for opening up. Removing a wall between the living room and kitchen usually means a new beam, which we size and install.
